Innovate for Future (IFF) 2024 champions presented their showcases at HKTDC Electronics Fair on 13-16 Oct 2024 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
It was a good opportunity for our IFF winners to have public exposure and presenting their innovative ideas and products to industry people though this grand exhibition event. This exposure allowed our young students to grow in the community, improve our society through the practical experience and make a sustainable future.
Our secondary champion, by Diocesan Girls’ School (DGS) presented her product : SignMaster: Bridging the Gap, One Sign at a Time, and our tertiary champion, by Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), presented her product : Gyming HK in our HKETA booth in the exhibition.

Innovate for Future (IFF) organized a 2-day bootcamp program at VTC STEAM & SCI Centre for our IFF2024 winners on 14-15 Sep, 2024. It was a great opportunity for our IFF winners to learn the latest and innovation technology, practical workshops, and development sharing by our IFF training partners and tutors.
The 2-day bootcamp program covered the following activity and workshops.
At the end of the program, our IFF trainers and tutors also made a great sharing of life development and school study in university to our IFF secondary streams students. We believed that our students might have a better insight how to develop their life and study plan in a technology world.
Our mission of IFF Platform aims to cultivate a long-term goal of fostering social innovation and shaping a sustainable future. Social innovators play a crucial role in designing new principles and tools for sustainable development, and more importantly, putting them into practice. Innovate for Future (IFF) 2024, the 5th annual innovation and technology competition, have been held successfully on 27 July 2024 at Cyberport. It was a wonderful one-day event that covered students pitch, round-table discussion, project showcase and awards ceremony. The secondary and tertiary’s school teams, IFF partners and industry guests could be at present together to share their innovative ideas and connect each other. Our IFF platform is targeted for the youth development to drive innovation, shape a sustainable future, and put the idea into practical. IFF2024 is an ideal technology competition for school teams looking to gain visibility and attract interest.
We thanks to our moderator, panellists, judges, and advisors for their valuable advice to our IFF students and teachers particular in IFF round-table discussion. Our panellists explored how AI impact on education and what’s next step in the youth development in the world driven by technology and AI. They also discussed the ethical implications and challenges associated with integrating technology into education. We expected this panel discussion was a crucial session in our pitch day that what IFF have addressed.
We are excited to congratulate the following final winners have been selected by our judge panel at the pitch day. They will have opportunity to join our IFF bootcamp, expose in exhibition & tech expo, and submit the project proposal to SJSU global program.

Our Innovate for Future (IFF)’ s past winner of secondary stream, St. Stephen’s Girls’ College (SSGC) visited our IFF international partner, San Jose State University (SJSU) and technology giants in Silicon Valley in June 2024.
We are excited to share our IFF winner to have excellent exposure in Silicon Valley to experience technology and innovation firsthand. It is a good opportunity for young students to have the insights and connections gained during this visit and undoubtedly serve as a source of inspiration and guidance as the winner continues to develop their own innovative ideas and solutions to address global challenges.

IFF2024 will organize an IFF Round-table Discussion in the afternoon of 27 July 2024 at Cyberport. It is a part of activities in our IFF2024 Pitch & Conference Day. The theme of this panel session is “Technology in Education” that targets on our IFF competition teams of secondary and tertiary, teachers, and guests.
As technology continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, its impact on education becomes increasingly profound. The theme of ” Technology in Education: What’s next to our Youth in the Technology & AI World ” explores the next steps in the development of our youth in a world driven by technology and artificial intelligence (AI). This theme delves into the evolving landscape of education, where traditional teaching methods are being transformed by innovative technologies. It examines how AI can enhance personalized learning experiences, promote critical thinking skills, foster digital literacy, and empower the young generation to become active learners in a technology-driven society of tomorrow. It also considers the ethical implications and challenges associated with integrating technology into education, ensuring that our youth are prepared for their work and life in the future.

Our HKETA’s Startup & Mentorship Subcommittee was invited by Life Science division of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to provide an information session of IFF2024 competition to their undergraduates of Life Science/School of Science at HKUST on 25 April, 2024.
“It is a great opportunity for our IFF2024 extending to biotech students of Life Science division. We have seen more biotechnology & health-care related projects presented in our past IFF competitions. Students are passionate to solve and improve our real-life challenges through idea generation to prototype development. Biotechnology is one of our technology areas to address. We have invited few biotech technologists & professionals to join our IFF platform. With their support of mentorship and practical guidance, I am sure that young students will have great opportunity to turn their innovative concepts into reality.” said Derek Lee, our IFF2024 Advisory Committee Chair.

Our HKETA’s Startup & Mentorship Subcommittee was invited by Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) to make a career development sharing to a final year class of Computer Science and Information Technology (CS/IT) undergraduates on 22 Mar 2024. Our Innovate for Future (IFF) provided a dedicated career sharing program which was hosted by our IFF partner, mentor and past champion. The program shared with students latest technology & market insights, startup experience, local and global career opportunities of ICT and healthcare industry sectors.

Our IFF2024 Gold Awards Sponsor, Axis Communications provided IFF’s secondary and tertiary school teams for their project extension and support. This project support program is dedicated to those IFF students with video camera equipment, API development tools, lab facility support, and training. Our IFF tutors are also assigned to support our winner teams and provide technical guidance for their project enhancement. The IFF school teams, students and teachers enjoyed a wonderful on-site experience and practical training on network video solution with AI technologies at Axis Experience Centre on 2 Mar 2024.
Axis Communications has also demonstrated real applications how to apply into a smart city by advanced features of real-time video data analytics, scene intelligence, thermal imaging, electronic image stabilization, radar technology and etc at the Axis laboratory during the visit.

The competition may apply to all local schools including secondary, and tertiary. Students will pitch how to move human society forward with feasible innovation and products in our coaching process.

Our Innovate for Future (IFF) 2023 champion, St. Stephen’s Girls’ College (SSGC) of secondary stream and 1st Runner Up, of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), Shatin has been selected for Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge (SVIC) 2023 Finalist Showcase under San Jose State University (SJSU) global program. Their innovative projects will be presented in Nov 28, 2023.
“Eat At All” System is designed by SSGC for reducing food waste at the source. It consists of a smart menu, food shelf and cloud database. The smart menu is connected to the smart food shelf which automatically sends the required ingredients for each dish. The cloud database (storing data on ingredient quantities and expiry dates) is automatically updated whenever ingredients are added or used. The database also provides information on popular dishes and the ingredient purchase history for reference.
“ZeroVio”, a Software System is designed by IVE/Shatin for supporting human activities to provide a real-time video surveillance of violent events. The system provides monitoring and preventing violent incidents efficiently and effectively which is critical for ensuring public safety.

Innovate for Future 2023 (IFF2023), an annual innovation and technology competition, have been held successfully on 5 Aug 2023 at Cyberport. It was a wonderful one-day event that covered students pitch, conference talks, showcases and awards ceremony. All the students could be at present to share their innovative prototypes to our IFF mentors & judges, partners, and industry guests.
We were excited to invite our honourable guests, Mr. Howard Cheng, COO of Cyberport to give us an opening remark in the morning and, Mr. Francis Wong, Executive Director of Sumitomo Corporation Equity Asia to give us a opening remark in the awards ceremony.
All the winners were selected by our judge panel during the pitch day and they will have opportunity to submit their project proposal for the SJSU global program.

HKETA’s Startup & Mentorship Sub-committee have launched Innovate for Future (IFF) platform since 2019. It is an open competition of innovation and technology to inspire young students in Hong Kong SAR to build innovative products and/or services to solve real life problems. Our IFF aims at fostering social innovation for a more sustainable future. It becomes a sustainable program for students to pursue their dreams and contribute to society through our technology coaching and mentorship.
MakerBay Foundation is a creative space and educational platform dedicated to helping youth make an impact through developing their maker skills and mindset. They believe in the potential of all youth to make a difference in the world, and they are committed to empowering and enabling them to do so. MakerBay operates makerspaces in Hong Kong SAR to provide people with the space, tools and training young people need to be innovators and serve the community through projects of maker education, impact innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Our partnership could extend our mission to foster science and technology culture by educational technology on our youth community though our collaborative activities and expertise in workforce development. We will joint force to explore and develop technology and other educational workshops in education sectors. Such programs could promote interest in latest technology education among young students and provide continuing training on career development. We also provide professional mentoring to young talents and early career engineers to cultivate their potential as future entrepreneurs.

Our school students have a wonderful onsite experience and practical training onnetwork video solution with AI technologies for video data analytics in real-time, scene intelligence, thermal imaging, electronic image stabilization, radar technology and etc into one system-on-chip feature demonstration at the Axis laboratory. Those iOT features and solutions revolutionize into smart cities in many ways such as traffic management and optimization, crowd monitoring, waste management and crisis management.

最近我們再次探訪一間中學的S.3學生團隊,他們正繼續探究科技創新的新方案,主題是科技/AI如何改變教學模式,以增強學生的學習能力。團隊由物理科老師帶領,老師有熱誠,亦肯定科學對學生未來發展的重要,故利用課餘時間跟我們合作,與學生一起探索和分享。老師指學生對科學和未來科技充滿熱情,也喜歡探索和實踐。
新方案得到IFF科技夥伴的全力支持,提供硬件設備和培訓課程。而我們的年青會員會擔任導師,他們都是修讀電腦工程的大學生,也是學生團隊的同校師姐。他們將積極參與指導工作,以完成一個為期一年的軟硬件開發項目,這也是我們IFF發展中一個傳承的實驗計劃 (STEM@HKETA Platform) 。

Congratulations to our IFF2021/22 PresentAR by tertiary team won the gold award for Hear Inclusive project and Silver award for PresentAR project. Our HKETA’s startup & mentorship subcommittee was invited by Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) to make a career talk for a final year of Computer Science and Information Technology undergraduate lecture on 27 Jan 2023. The career talk was including our mentorship program, Innovate for Future (IFF) platform introduction, career opportunity for startup and global tech market in Hong Kong.

HKETA’s Startup & Mentorship subcommittee is glad to release an Innovate for Future (IFF) article published in our HKETA Annual e-Book 2023 for our members, academic and industry partners. The IFF article highlights the prospect of Innovate for Future platform, IFF2023 competition event and key messages addressing from our premium supporter and strategic partners.
Innovate for Future (IFF) is an open competition of innovation & technology to inspire our young people in Hong Kong to create innovative products or services for solving and improving our real-life challenges, though idea generation to prototype development. The competition may apply to all local schools including primary, secondary, and tertiary. Students will pitch how to move human society forward with feasible innovation and products in our coaching process. The competition theme of IFF2023 is Social Innovation & Sustainability For Future.

Our Innovate for Future (IFF) 2021 champion, PresentAR from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), Shatin has been selected for Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge (SVIC) Finalist Showcase 2022 under San Jose State University (SJSU) global program. The PresentAR team has presented their innovative project in Nov 19, 2022 with well recognition by judge panel.
PresentAR is a software application (APP), provides the best storytelling experience and allows users directly interact with the objects in the presentation with supporting by AR technology, hand gesture recognition and voice control. It is targeted to use in the video conferencing, virtual presentation and online product unveiling events.
Their teammates continue to further study in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology respectively. At the same time, this project is under developed for commercialization and supported by our industry program.

Our Innovate for Future (IFF) 2021 winners from tertiary and primary streams of HKETA Invitation and Technology Competition, have a good opportunity to expose and present their ideas with project showcases to industry people at Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival on 20 Aug 2022 at HKCEC.
This public exposure allowed our young students to grow and improve our society through the practical experience in the community. Our IFF platform is developed to foster social innovation for a sustainable future.

One of the winners, the first runner up in tertiary stream of Innovate for Future 2020 (IFF2020) competition: Elderlive has been selected for Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge (SVIC) Finalist Showcase 2021 under San Jose State University (SJSU) global program. The Elderlive team has pitched their innovative idea and showcase in Dec 1, 2021.
Congratulations to the Elderlive Team who was among many international university teams submitted, won the Best Innovation from a Partner Institution Award in SVIC Finalist Showcase 2021. The project of Elderlive is a transparent and bilingual of elderly home comparison platform to improve elderly living condition in Hong Kong. This project is developed by two undergraduate students of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) : Angel Woo, studying in Computer Science & Business and Phoebe Woo, studying in Law (PCLL), Cambridge LLM.
Our Innovate For Future (IFF) is an open competition of innovation and technology to inspire Young Students in Hong Kong to build innovative products and/or services to solve real life problems. IFF2021 is currently undergoing the idea submission period, and the winners will be submitted to SVIC Final Showcase next year.

IFF2020 (Innovate For Future) Final Pitch cum demonstration day, HKETA’s annual innovation and technology competition, was held successfully at Cyberport on Apr 17. We are so excited to have 10 final teams presenting their final idea and demonstrated their prototypes virtually. The competition theme this year is “Technology Shaping a Better Life: Health, Intelligence, Communication”. The final champion will have the opportunity to submit project ideas for the SJSU global program. Selected winners will also be nominated for Cyberport CCMF Fast Track*.

Mr. Leung and Mr. Wong shared the latest technologies on Smart Cards usage and technologies at Smart Offices and Smart School. We wish to inspire youth on technology innovation through various workshops and webinars.

The school team has pitched their innovative idea and showcase their creativity to industry leaders, investors and recruiters in Dec 1, 2020
Congratulations to the ADHDreamer Team from St. Paul’s Convent School, who was among hundreds of submitted university teams, won the Best Overall Innovation #2, and Best Healthcare Innovation Award in SVIC Finalist Showcase 2020. The ADHDreamer team developed a mobile app which helps ADHD kids to improve their focus / attention through playing games.
Our Innovate For Future (IFF) is an open competition of innovation and technology to inspire Young Students from Secondary Schools and Higher Educational Institutes/Universities in Hong Kong to build innovative products and/or services to solve real life problems. The team is invited to be the finalist of the Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge (SVIC) Finalist Showcase 2020. They will pitch their idea and present the innovation at the SVIC Finalist Showcase on Dec 1.
The project case of ADHDreamer is targeted to help ADHD children to improve mental conditions and raise public awareness of ADHD kids.

There will be 2 streams: Secondary school stream and Tertiary stream. The competition theme is Technology Shaping a Better Life: Health, Intelligence, Communication. This competition is supported by our international partner, San Jose State University (SJSU).

The 3 teams – Champion, Most Innovative Idea Award, and Best Presentation Award received awards presented by Dr. Alan Wong, Director of Silicon Valley Center For Global Studies, San Jose State University on Jan 17, 2020.
The teams also showcased their winning projects at IndustryConnect Tech Showcase at Hong Kong Science Park during HKETA annual dinner. They received a lot of feedback from the guests for their projects, and will continue further research & development with IFF mentorship support.
The winning team will join SJSU Global Program for further development and showcases.
